build the re.write with us.
we are at an inflection point for women and work.
AI is reshaping jobs, power and how work gets done. early studies suggest women are not benefiting equally from the opportunities it creates. employment data also suggests women are being pushed out of the workforce and experienced women are finding it harder to get hired.
at the same time, old bargains between women and work are unraveling.
more women are leaving companies and leadership tracks, questioning definitions of success they once worked incredibly hard to achieve, and reconsidering what they are willing to give to work.
most existing conversations focus on the barriers women face inside existing systems. this leaves more foundational questions about women and work underexplored.
we are asking the necessary questions.
where are women losing ground?
what are women beginning to question?
where is women’s ambition going?
how does work need to evolve to keep up with women’s changing expectations?
the re.write is a modern think tank built for this moment, combining original research, experimentation, and storytelling.
too much groundbreaking thinking about women and work never gets the resources or reach to break through.
we want to change that.
we find and advance the ideas that can change how we understand women and work, and give them the power to move.
we do that through:
original research to uncover and advance new insights.
a re.write lab to test new frameworks and interventions.
a storytelling platform that uses podcasts, collaborations and media to give important ideas greater reach.
the research areas we’re going after first.
the exit interview
more women are leaving the workforce and stepping away from traditional career paths. companies have been conducting exit interviews with individual women for decades. what if we conducted one with an entire generation?
we want to ask 100,000 women what became intolerable, what would have had to change for them to stay, and where they are choosing to invest their ambition instead.
technology makes it possible to listen at a scale and depth that wasn't possible before. and then keep listening, creating a longitudinal study of how women's relationship with work is changing over time.
women + AI
the conversation about women and AI often focuses on whether women are using AI enough or which jobs it may replace. we want to ask a different set of questions.
who gets the opportunities AI creates? who gets the new jobs and power? as AI changes how work gets done, does it reproduce old patterns of inequality or create an opportunity to rewrite them?
we believe AI could be one of the biggest opportunities to reshape work for women. we want to understand what it would take to make sure women help shape that future and benefit from it.
care tax phase ii
the Care Tax struck a nerve this summer. hundreds of thousands of women saw themselves in the research, and the idea was picked up widely in the press as a new way to understand the invisible work women carry inside organizations.
now it's time to measure its impact on women and companies and test what can actually change it. which leadership practices and organizational systems reduce or redistribute invisible labor? which ones unintentionally make it worse?
our early research suggests AI may be adding another layer to the Care Tax. we want to go deeper into the relationship between AI and the Care Tax and understand who carries the human work AI can't.
we want to build it with you.
we have been doing this work for years. but we don't want to build what comes next behind closed doors.
we are looking for founding funders: individuals, foundations and companies looking to back ambitious ideas on women and work.
